Assistant Instructor Course

Being an SSI Assistant Instructor enables you to inspire and influence others to grow in their diving experiences and increase your personal knowledge, skills and experience by teaching Open Water (class and pool training) and Specialty courses.

This program provides the skills, concepts and teaching experience required to become a successful SSI Instructor.

What you can Teach:
In addition to the programs taught by active status Professional Dive Guides, active Assistant Instructors may teach, supervise and issue certifications for the following programs:

  • Scuba Rangers
  • Try Scuba / Experience Scuba
  • Scuba Skills Update
  • Perfect Buoyancy
In addition to the duties performed by an SSI Divemaster, active status Assistant Instructors may also:
  • Teach the Open Water Diver academic and pool/confined water sessions (with the exception of emergency ascent skills) under the indirect supervision of an active status Open Water Instructor.
  • Register to become a Specialty Instructor for certain SSI Specialty Courses
  • Continue your training and enroll in an Instructor Training Course

The goal of our course is to prepare you for a successful career with Scuba Professionals of Arizona.  The Dive Professional Courses are modular which means you complete blocks one after the other, which creates and builds the confidence needed to create a real dive professional. When you finish this program you can choose to remain an Assistant Instructor, or upgrade your status to an Open Water Instructor or many other pathways.

Prerequisites:
Before you begin, you must be an active Divemaster or higher from SSI or an equivalent recognized training agency.  You must be 18 years of age or older and have logged 60 Open Water Dives totaling 40 hours or more.
